Top Five Streets Around the World You Wish Existed in Your Town

Every town has a main street.

Shops, cafés, maybe a pub or two.

But some streets around the world feel like they belong in a different universe — the kind of place where you instantly wish, “Why don’t we have one of these at home?”

Whether it’s neon lights, historic charm, or a ridiculous number of amazing food stalls, these streets have a personality that turns an ordinary walk into an experience.

Here are five streets that would massively improve any hometown:

La Rambla, Barcelona

5. La Rambla

Few streets capture the energy of a city quite like La Rambla.

Stretching through the heart of Barcelona, this lively boulevard is packed with street performers, flower stalls, cafés and tiny side streets filled with surprises. It’s the sort of place where you might set out for a quick walk and accidentally spend the entire afternoon people-watching.

Why we wish we had one:

Because every town deserves a street where wandering aimlessly is the main activity.

4. Shibuya Crossing

Technically it’s an intersection, but it feels like the centre of the universe.

Massive screens glow overhead, neon lights bounce off the surrounding buildings, and when the lights change, thousands of people cross in every direction at once. It’s organised chaos — and somehow incredibly satisfying to watch.

Why we wish we had one:

Because even crossing the road would feel like an event.

3. Champs-Élysées

Wide pavements, historic architecture, cafés, theatres and luxury shops — the Champs-Élysées is the definition of a grand city street.

Running towards the iconic Arc de Triomphe, it feels less like a road and more like a stage set for elegant Parisian life.

Why we wish we had one:

Because sometimes a street should feel dramatic.

2. Bourbon Street

Loud, colourful and endlessly entertaining.

Bourbon Street is famous for its live music, open balconies, and energy that barely slows down day or night. Jazz spills out of bars, people dance in the street, and there’s always something unexpected happening around the next corner.

Why we wish we had one:

Because a street that’s basically a permanent party would make weekends far more interesting.

1. Nanjing Road

If you could design the ultimate high-energy city street, it might look a lot like Nanjing Road.

Stretching through the heart of Shanghai, this enormous pedestrian boulevard is packed with glowing shopfronts, massive digital billboards, restaurants, street performers and an endless stream of people. At night it turns into a sea of colour and neon that feels closer to a futuristic film set than a normal shopping street.

Part historic landmark, part retail paradise, and part urban spectacle, it’s one of the busiest shopping streets on Earth — and somehow still manages to feel exciting rather than overwhelming.
