Children and families visiting the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton will now find a much brighter and friendlier environment in the outpatients’ department, thanks to Rockinghorse Children’s Charity and The Sussex Sign Company.

The busy waiting area on Level 5 welcomes young patients and their families every day.

While Rockinghorse already provides toys, books and games to help ease nerves before appointments, the space has now been transformed with colourful new wall graphics and decorations.

The designs – featuring fun images, puzzles and wordsearches – were created and installed by The Sussex Sign Company, who chose Rockinghorse as their Charity of the Year.

Laura Barker, Play Worker at the hospital, said:

“These decorations have made such a huge difference to the waiting area.

"Parents and families love playing with the games, and it’s made the whole space much more welcoming and friendly.”

Maisie Miller, General Manager at Sussex Signs, added:

“Creating a brighter, more engaging space for children and their families really resonated with us.

"The finished graphics are colourful, interactive and fun, and we hope they bring a little joy to everyone who uses the space.”

Amanda Hetherington, Head of Partnerships at Rockinghorse, said the feedback from families and NHS staff has been overwhelmingly positive:

“They make such a huge difference to the whole area. We really can’t thank The Sussex Sign Company enough for this amazing support.”

Rockinghorse continues to fund vital projects and improvements for children’s healthcare across Sussex.
