Throughout June and July, work will be carried out in 12 play areas as part of Brighton & Hove City Council's playground refurbishment programme.

Most of the 12 sites will receive a full or partial refurbishment to make sure the playgrounds are providing accessible and enjoyable play spaces for children.

Depending on the size of the play area, work will take between two and four weeks to complete. The play areas will be closed during the refurbishment, but the majority will be completed and open to use before the summer holidays.

Work is taking place in the following parks:

  • Hove Lagoon, from 10 June
  • William Clarke, from 10 June
  • Stanmer Heights, from 13 June
  • Kingswood Flats, from 17 June
  • Mackie Park, from 17 June
  • Milner Flats, from 26 June
  • Wolseley Road, from 24 June
  • Hollingbury Park, from 1 July
  • Ovingdean, from 8 July
  • Manor Road, from 12 July
  • Happy Valley, from 15 July
  • Mile Oak Recreation Ground, from 22 July

These improvements are the completion of the first phase of the council’s playground refurbish programme to create inclusive play and learning opportunities for children and young people across the city.

Residents helped to shape the plans for the play areas through consultations and they were invited to see the designs in events over the half-term week.
