Make a splash near the water this summer with the latest swimwear trends for the whole family, revealed by Sara Whatley

It’s time to hit the pool, or grab your towel and lounge on the beach – piña colada optional. As your longed-for holiday finally approaches, make sure you have packed the latest swimwear styles for all the family, and cause a super stylish splash wherever you are!

Women have got reams of styles to choose from: start with something belted. This season’s iteration of belted sees proper big, buckled belts sitting atop high waisted bottoms or cinching in the waist of a one-piece costume. A very flattering trend indeed.

Romantic ruffles are also adorning swimwear this season. Use them to emphasise collarbones and waistline.

As reported a couple of months ago, gold chains and hoops are big news this season, and now that trend has slid across to swimwear too. Costumes, bikinis and everything in between can be found with golden chain and hoop elements, which look gorgeous against sun-kissed skin and add a serious element of luxe.

All that glitters must be good, including your swimwear. Micro glitter and shiny material (for both men and women) took the catwalks by storm for SS22. This look will get you noticed for sure, so not for the shy retiring types.

Another seriously cool look for super hot days is cut outs and monokinis (essentially a bikini with the top and bottom joined by a thin strip of material down the middle). Exposing flesh in all the right places, and making you feel a million dollars in the sunshine.

Men also have some seriously stylish shorts to choose from. Release your inner ‘Action Man’ and embrace the military inspired ‘camo’ look, or if patterns are not your thing, opt for plain khaki instead. If you like plain block colours in brighter tones that’s great; they are ageless and complimentary.

The new look for the nautical striped short is a crisp white stripe, colour behind variable. Choose vertical to draw the eye up and down, or horizontal to add a little width.

For those that like a bold beach style, look to co-ords. Match your shorts to your shirt in anything from bright florals, to bold stripes or geometric patterns. You will get noticed in this look.

Or for something a little old school, step into a pair of retro inspired sportswear shorts – think gym teacher, but much more suave. Usually slighter shorter in design, and perfect paired with retro sunnies.

And finally, for the little ones, there are so many cute options to choose from. All in one swimsuits with sleeves and legs for tots, classic one piece swimsuits, ruffle or puff sleeved bikini and tankinis, and sharky inspired board shorts are all super trendy and fun.
